It surprised me when I was going through our soon-to-be up-to-date home.
There was a small dwelling in the attic that had its own entrance, however no Heating, Ventilation, and A/C.
I was sure it was going to be extremely hot up there in the summer, and freezing in the winter. There was no insulation in the walls or the ceiling. My daughter was eighteen and still lived at home, and my friend and I thought it would give her some privacy, however still give her family if she needed anything. The first thing my friend and I planned to do when my friend and I took possession of the house, was install insulation in the attic apartment, and add an Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system. My friend and I talked to the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C supplier about expanding the HVAC duct for the main Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system, although she said that would take away from the heating and a/c in the main part of the house. She then suggested my friend and I try a mini split Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system in the attic. It was a small enough section that my friend and I would only need one unit. It would heat and cool the entire upstairs, and it would only take a small Heating, Ventilation, and A/C/light kits for the lavatory, however she enjoyed knowing she had a home office, lavatory, and small sitting area, plus a private entrance. She offered to help us pay for the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system as long as my friend and I didn’t interfere if she had supplier. The least my friend and I could do was give her privacy, however my friend and I told her there would be no overnight male guests. She rolled her eyes then smiled and said there may be no help with the Heating, Ventilation, and A/C system. I was hoping she was kidding.
