We had never met or spoke to one another prior to that day
I’ll never forget the day I arrived at my school dorm room.
I was finally eighteen years old and was so happy to begin this new chapter of my life.
I knew that I’d have more than one roommate. We did not talk to them or meet before this day. The moving day was in September in the northeastern region of the United States. It was a tepid and humid day. Moving all of my clothes, furniture, and other possessions that I needed into my dorm was hard work. I was lucky that my folks were there to help me. When we entered the dorm, my roommate was already there. He was super hot and I assumed that was from moving boxes. I suddenly realized that the HVAC cooling in our dorm room was faulty. I asked my roommate if they told the resident assistant about the air conditioner issue. They said that they had let them, but since it was a weekend the school Heating and Air Conditioning expert would not manage to come until Monday. Hearing that made me a little sad that the air conditioner was not finally working. I did not want this first night in college to be spent perspiring excessively. I also am not myself when I am overheated, so a small non air conditioned room with a new person was scary to think about. I ended up running into my buddy that I met at orientation a week prior. I told her about the HVAC cooling not working in my dorm room and she told me that I could sleep in her room because her air conditioner was finally working perfectly. I slept in my friend’s air conditioned dorm room until the Heating and Air Conditioning expert came to repair the air conditioner in my dorm room.
