Shocked by the cost of cooling equipment for our new home: saved by the installments plan at the cooling business
We wanted to buy an already-built house but didn’t like any of the ones we saw.
Our next project was to build one for ourselves.
Most hectic adulting experience thus far, especially regarding things like HVAC installation. We were doing a budget with our home contractor, and the cost of buying our preferred cooling technology still shocked me. I knew maintaining cooling systems could be expensive, having witnessed how stressful it was for my parents when they had to call an HVAC contractor to check why our cooling equipment had failed, and they had no money to handle it immediately, but I had not thought about how much a new unit cost. We also wanted to install an electric heat pump which wasn’t yet popular, so it was expensive to purchase and install because the local service provider only had one cooling technician skilled to handle it. It didn’t help that we couldn’t ignore it because homes in our area need help with indoor comfort and climate control. The cooling specialist, who we’d learned from our construction manager, shared that the cooling corporation he worked for offered a pay-in-installments option for clients that attracted no interest. We would have to agree on how long it would take to pay off the debt with the HVAC business, and they would let us take and install it. There were other terms and conditions, but all were fair, so we took that option. Apart from getting our equipment when needed, the business has also continuously offered quality AC service. Hence, we are not worried about having to replace our unit soon. I have always been skeptical about taking such offers, but now that we are done paying it off, only five months since the agreement, I recommend it.
