Day job at the heating company

I work on these stories every day of the week.

I only work about three hours a day, so my workweek isn’t that bad, and I no longer have to drive to the office during rush hour.

I used to work in engineering, which was very stressful, but when I was 32, I quit to find a different kind of life. This search has taken me all over the world and given me the chance to see live performances for almost 20 years, which I wouldn’t have been able to do with such a busy workweek. Fixing HVAC ducts doesn’t pay nearly as much as being an engineer, but I’d rather work part-time from home than as an engineer for a local contractor corporation for 60 hours a week. I would have never been able to do stand-up comedy in clubs late at night if I had to be in the office every day at 7am, like I did when I worked in corporate America. I would still be there today building heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems and counting down the days until retirement, just like my other coworkers are still doing 25 years later. Now I have memories from about 1500 shows where I performed in front of crowds in many countries, and I won’t be sorry that I didn’t quit that job when I’m old and retired. If I spent all my time building heating and cooling equipment again, I wouldn’t have had the chance to live life and learn as much as I have. So I’m glad I took the opportunity.
