Don’t know how to set the thermostat in fall

The evenings have started to get into the 50s.

That means when I wake up it is rather freezing in the house.

I do not like it when it is that time of year. I never know how to dress or respectfully set my thermostat. On one hand I would like the heating system to kick on late at evening. When the temperature dips into the 50s, I want to feel gentle heat through the air vents. I also want the heater to run until about noon. Then the weather starts to perk up plus feel slightly warm. By the time it is around 2-3 in the afternoon, the sunlight is shining plus I want air conditioning system in the house. It lasts this way until around 9-10 at evening. So what am I supposed to do? Constantly adjust my thermostat throughout the day? Go from heating to AC to heating again? It is not truly energy smart to regularly be messing with my system. Thankfully I have a central heating plus cooling system which means the thermostat controls the whole unit. That one component does both heating plus cooling. I don’t need to turn off a unique air conditioning system plus start a heating system. That would be horrible. My husband is of the mindset that we just stick with AC. If the afternoons are cold, we will just freeze. He wants to wait it out. I agree it is cheaper plus better for our system. I don’t like that the kids get up every day for college cold though. There must be a cheap solution to this.
