I fell through the soft spot on the roof
Winter storms in this area bring a lot of rain. The temperatures are never cold enough to have snow, but we have days and days of rain when the higher elevations have snow. We had several days in a row of rain and I noticed a spot in the living room where the roof was leaking. We have a one level home and the area above the living room has a very rudimentary roof. As soon as I noticed there was a leak, I was concerned. I couldn’t get up on the roof to secure the spot in the middle of the night. It was dark and wet and not very safe. I waited until the next day when the rain slowed down. I grabbed a ladder from the garage and placed it next to the area where the roof damage should have been. My wife came outside to stand next to the ladder to make sure that it did not move anywhere while I was climbing. It was slippery and I did not want to fall and get hurt. I should have thought more about the roof, because I ended up falling through the soft spot and I got hurt anyway. As soon as I stepped onto the roof, my foot went through. I fell right through the soft spot and landed in the living room on a pile of rubble. There was a huge hole in the ceiling and I had to call a roofing contractor fast. I didn’t have a tarp or any of the materials to secure the area and we were expecting rain the very next day.
