Promotions result from performance and HVAC changes
In many ways, being in the zone-controlled HVAC at the corporate offices felt like the finish line.
- Before I moved into the space with almost flawless commercial HVAC, I spent nearly 15 years working for the same company.
So I had absolutely no desire to leave it. In fact, I had moved so much during the course of my employment with the company that I was prepared to establish roots. And it was kind of accepted that I would eventually be able to buy a house and stop moving. That’s how I went about it when I bought my house and replaced the HVAC system in addition to making other improvements. I met the woman who would become my wife before the house was even finished because she was a local. It appeared as though everything was going according to plan. I would have a lovely home with nearly the best heating and air that money could buy. It sure beats having to move around for the company and live in all those apartments and condos. However, after the pandemic, everything changed. Over the first 18 months of the pandemic, the company unquestionably suffered. During a significant portion of that time, we were all working from homes with personal air conditioning. I was ushered into the big bosses as soon as we returned to the office. They desired that I relocate to the north in order to save a failing regional office. The request was more of a demand than a request. To tell my wife that a gas furnace would be in her future, however, was something I really struggled with.
