My husband was telling me we needed to call my brother-in-law and have him look at our furnace. I didn’t want to call my brother-in-law. I wanted to call our regular HVAC company, but my husband insisted. He thought Joe was a marvelous HVAC technician, and he charged us very little for his help. I knew what a hassle it was for my sister to get her husband to work on their HVAC system. My husband was arguing with me over why I didn’t want Joe’s help, and I was blunt. My sister hadn’t had good air conditioning for two years now. Whenever she said she would call the HVAC company, Joe would mumble and tell her he would fix the AC unit, but it never happened. I called the HVAC company for my sister, and Joe showed up. He was angry that she felt she had to call his workplace, just to get him to fix the air conditioning unit, but he worked on it. My husband told me that happens sometimes. If you worked for a company eight or ten hours a day, you didn’t want to come home and be expected to work more hours. You wanted to relax in your home. My husband thought Joe would have done the work when he was off on the weeknights, but he didn’t know Joe like my sister knew him. Once he was home, he was sleeping in his chair until it was time to go back to work. I thought that when my sister called the HVAC company, it was a brilliant way to get Joe to repair the air conditioning. He was getting paid for working.
