Don’t know how to set the thermostat in fall

The nights have started to get into the 50s. That means when I wake up it is rather chilly in the house. I hate it when it is that time of year. I never know how to dress or properly set my thermostat. On one hand I would like the heating system to kick on late at night. When the temperature dips into the 50s, I want to feel gentle heat through the air vents. I also want the heater to run until about noon. Then the weather starts to perk up and feel slightly warm. By the time it is around 2-3 in the afternoon, the sun is shining and I want air conditioning in the house. It lasts this way until around 9-10 at night. So what am I supposed to do? Constantly adjust my thermostat throughout the day? Go from heating to AC to heating again? It is not very energy smart to constantly be messing with my system. Thankfully I have a central heating and cooling system which means the thermostat controls the whole unit. That one unit does both heating and cooling. I don’t need to turn off a specific air conditioner and start a furnace. That would be horrible. My husband is of the mindset that we just stick with AC. If the mornings are cold, we will just freeze. He wants to wait it out. I agree it is cheaper and better for our system. I don’t like that the kids get up every morning for school cold though. There must be a cheap solution to this.
