A neat freak learns about ductwork cleaning

The air duct for the HVAC caught my attention while taking a quick break during one of those weekly cleanings.

My husband and kids are smart enough not to just throw their stuff anywhere. They are all aware of my reaction to this. And we all want to avoid agitating me about the cleanliness and organization of the house. I’m fortunate to live in such a lovely location with such high-quality heating and air conditioning and so many conveniences. However, ever since I was a young child, I have been a complete clean freak. I believe that cleaning was somewhat of a coping mechanism. My childhood home experienced more than its fair share of conflict and drama. I was really negatively impacted by that in some way. When things got tense and ugly in my mom’s house, I always felt a little out of control. So I would tidy up. This appeared to divert my attention from the gloomy atmosphere created by the home’s central air conditioning. Over the years, I simply developed the need for a tidy, organized environment. That applies to both the air conditioning in my home and office. So, no, the kids are aware that everything has a place and that we all clean up after ourselves in addition to helping with weekly cleaning tasks. The air duct for the HVAC caught my attention while taking a quick break during one of those weekly cleanings. I could tell it was filthy. I was horrified to discover, upon closer inspection, that there was some serious squalor behind that air duct vent. At that point, I learned that ductwork cleaning and resealing existed. Let me also tell you that ductwork cleaning is now an annual occasion.
